The New Adventure Begins!
My husband was looking at RV Blogs the other day and
commented about how useful some of them can be with information. I reminded him we had an RV Blog. Then for some reason, I sat down and tried to
journal all of our camping trips since purchasing an RV. I have almost a one year gap that I cannot
remember what we did. I realized it was
time to start blogging again. If for
nothing else, then to have a journal and pictures of our trips.
So, to start, here is a link to our first blog. I will try to update it with our Passport
adventures – but no promises.
One year after purchasing a new RV, seems like a good time
to start a new blog!
On June 10, 2016, we traded our beloved Keystone Passport
290BH for an Open Range Light Fifth Wheel LF295FBH.
Prior to the trade, we had spend 11 nights i We
had an amazing trip, but with three growing kids, an eighty pound Australian
Shepherd (plus a small Scottie) and a collection stuff from RV’ing over the
years, we had simply outgrown our Passport.
We needed room. Slides. Storage.
The Open Range is almost perfect.
We started out looking at travel trailers because we didn’t
want to loose our truck bed. I thought
slides in the bunkhouse were a must, however, quickly discovered that bunkhouse
slides lead to shorter bunks. My kids
wanted 4 bunks, not 3 bunks and a sofa, not 2 bunks and 2 sofas, they didn’t
want to convert beds and they wanted long bunks that their feet didn’t touch
the camper walls. My kids are tall, and
the youngest is going to be tall. So
while the Open Range doesn’t have a bunk slide, it has 4 nice long bunks. And because it is in the fifth wheel part, it
has height. All kids can sit in their
bunks and their heads have plenty of room.
And storage. Glorious
storage. The by far best bunk house
storage I have seen without having double slides. What they gave up in floor space, they gained
with amazing storage.
Slides. We have 3
good slides. The slide in the living
area is the deepest on the market at 42”.
A kitchen slide makes the kitchen island an added bonus. The kids gave up a bunkhouse slide that we
gained in the master bedroom. Our master
bedroom has an amazing wall to wall glass closet with drawers under it. Love love love it.
What is it missing?
Well, it doesn’t have an outdoor kitchen. We did really want an outdoor kitchen, but
the Open Range had so many other things I loved, I was willing to give up an outdoor
kitchen. Also, there are hardly any
windows on the door side, which is the camp side. I do miss the giant Passport window that
overlooked the campsite. Also, the
bunkhouse only has 2 windows that are on the 2 bottom bunks. The Passport had 6 windows in it – although
the kids hardly ever opened the blinds.
My oldest daughter has commented that she misses having a window on her
bunk. Ideally, we would’ve gotten a
second half bathroom but wasn’t a necessity.
In the end, we are very happy with our Open Range. Trading our Passport was probably one of the
hardest things we have ever done. We
loved it and had such amazing memories in it.
But we are really enjoying our Open Range. It hasn’t been without issues, but that is
for another post.
Here is to camping in the Open Range!
Living Room Area. We opted for a party bench style rather than a dinette and couch. I like it, not as in love with it as I thought we would be, but it works for all 5 of us.
Above: Looking from the Master towards the bunkhouse. Nice Open space with an island kitchen.
Below: Close up of the Island kitchen.
Bunkhouse. 4 twin bunks that our kids can actually stretch out in and be comfortable. There are storage drawers under each of the two bottom bunks. Going out of the bunkhouse are two closets, one on each side with 2 drawers under both closets. Great TV cabinet for books, tv, computers, Xbox.
Next two pictures are of the Open Range and our old Passport on the swap lot at Lazydays RV.
Master Bedroom closet with storage drawers. The bed is on a slide so it gives us a little bit more room to get around. Really love our master!
